How Is Boxed Wine Packaging Better Than Bottled Wines?

Boxed wine does not have good reputation and people assume it a poor quality wine that comes at a very low price. This was the story in the past. In recent times, boxed wine packaging has become popular among customers as well as manufacturers. This type of wine is making a comeback mainly because of its environmental and economical benefits.

Wine manufacturers are using packing box in Melbourne. This wine is stored in a bag with an airtight plastic tap attached to it. The wine is then packed into a box, which has hole for the tap to poke through. This type of wine packaging is gaining popularity in recent times mainly because of its changes in few problematic areas.

Few reasons for this wine packing method coming to limelight are
  • Low energy costs: Wine box packing is very good for environment. The cost benefits if producing, transporting, storing and consuming wine from a bag in a box. Though glass is recyclable, it takes huge amount of energy in making these bottles. Switching to cardboard boxes helps in reducing energy consumption and the material is environment friendly as it can be recycled easily. The containers made of plastic are friendly and they do not contaminate or spoil the taste of the wine. Soya based inks and cornstarch is used as adhesive in making of these containers.
  • Lower carbon dioxide emission: Glass bottles are heavier than cardboard boxes, so the cost of shifting them from one place to another is also more. The cost of transportation for cardboard boxes is less, compared to glass bottles, economically as well as environmentally.
  • Longer life: Cardboard boxes can store wine fresh for weeks once opened, without the taste being affected, but for a bottled wine, it should be consumed within hours of its opening.
  • Wine consumers would decrease less wine, if they know that the wine has a longer shelf life. Studies have shown that people consume the bottle of wine because they are aware that the taste will be changed if they are stored for more than few hours.
  • Economical: It is a known fact cardboard is less expensive than glass. The price of wine bottle can be high because of the cost of glass. If the glass price is eliminated, the cost of manufacturing reduces, which wine makers can pass it on to consumers.

Many wine manufacturers are shifting to cardboard box packing, as they are confident that this type of packing can result in more profits than glass packing.
